International Week: Space is the place!
The international Week is a one-week trip of masterclasses, lectures, screenings and talks by inspiring people from the music industry, aiming to arouse curiosity and broaden the minds of students, alumni and teachers of PXL-Music. The main theme of the International Week 2018 was S P A C E, ranging from the personal space in your own head to the acoustic space in the studio, up to the professional freedom the artist creates for himself. We even took a peek at the cosmos!
With the help of her cello and her own graphic work, asteroseismologist Katrien Kolenberg showed us how we can ‘listen’ to the stars.
Aarich Jespers (The Colorist, Zita Swoon) and Gert Bettens (K’s Choice) took the students on an intercultural song-writing journey, using exotic rhythm patterns and a collection of found images as a guide. Four Swedish students from the Linnaeus University participated in the journey.
Pianist Tom Beghin, PXL-teacher and sound engineer Steven Maes and acousticus Thomas Wulfrank gave us an insight in their reconstruction of Beethoven’s hearing machines.
Choreographer Bérengère Bodin, soprano Maribeth Diggle and stage director Sara Vanderieck hosted an improvisation with live music and physical movement.
There was more: instant songwriting with Sonic Pi, setting up audio networks over IP, experimenting with Kush Audio gear, exploring the Ableton connection kit, great talks with Daimy Van Caudenberg, Stefaan Moriau, Philippe Cortens, Marie Ctverackova & Martin Tvrdy, Charlotte Adigéry & Jarri Van der Haegen, Justin Bennett, Naomi Reho, Sally-Anne Gross & Dr. George Musgrave and a podcast by Gregory Scott and Nathan Daniel.
